The Streets and Sanitation Department is an integral part of the City of Monroe Public Works Department. This department is responsible for the maintenance of all city streets, alleys, right of ways, and storm water drainage systems within the city limits. The department is also responsible for the collection of residential garbage and recycling.

In addition, the Streets and Sanitation Department provides direct and indirect support to other organizations responding to both man-made and natural disasters.
