Garbage Disposal
Weekly Curbside Garbage Collection
Since 2013 the City of Monroe has utilized an automated garbage collection system to provide weekly curbside pickup to residential properties.  Each residential property is provided a garbage cart (with three convenient size options: 35 gallon, 65 gallon and 95 gallon) that can be placed at curbside on their garbage collection day for pickup.

General Collection Information
To be assured of trash pickup, residents are urged to place all garbage at the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled day of collection (but no earlier than 5:00 p.m. on the day prior to collection).

Garbage should still be kept separate from recyclables, yard waste, bulky waste and rubble.

Cost for Curbside Garbage Collection
The City charges for curbside garbage collection on a quarterly utility bill.  Depending on the size of your garbage cart the costs are as follows:

  • 35 gallon cart: $22.50/quarter
  • 65 gallon cart: $25.50/quarter
  • 95 gallon cart: $28.50/quarter

Garbage Bag Stickers Program

The City also offers additional garbage disposal beyond the limitations of your cart size.  If you have more garbage than will fit in your cart you can purchase a "Garbage Bag Sticker" to affix to the additional bag(s).

Garbage Stickers can be purchased for $2 each either at the City Treasurer's Office (1110 18th Avenue) or at the Wastewater Treatment Plant Facility (1224 10th Avenue West).

Please contact the Streets and Sanitation Dept. at 329-2490 to notify them that you will have an extra bag(s) of garbage with a garbage sticker on it beside your cart on your garbage day.
