The division is responsible for enforcing the City's building regulations, which provides certain minimum requirements for safe and stable design methods and construction and uses of materials, for electrical installations, for plumbing installations and for heating, ventilating and air conditioning installations in buildings or structures erected, constructed, enlarged, altered, repaired, moved, converted to other uses or demolished and to regulate the equipment, maintenance, use and occupancy of all buildings or structures. The City of Monroe’s building regulations supplements any and all laws of the State of Wisconsin and regulations of the Wisconsin Administrative Code
The division is also responsible for oversight of the City's housing and property maintenance regulations.
The City addresses housing and property maintenance regulations for the purpose of preserving and promoting the public health, safety, morals, comfort, convenience, prosperity and general welfare of the people of the city and environs. This includes, among others, physical, aesthetic, spiritual and monetary values. The establishment and enforcement of minimum housing and property maintenance standards is necessary to preserve and promote the private and public interest.
