Welcome to our website. In these pages you will find important information to help prevent fire and injuries associated with fires, and other hazards. We have also included information about our department.
Many Monroe residents don't know that our community is served by a combination department including career, part-time and volunteer members along with the Fire Chief, and Deputy Fire Chief. No matter what position they fill, our members are ALL considered PROFESSIONAL firefighters. Our Department responds to fires and EMS calls, alarm system activations, rescue and haz-mat incidents for an area of more than 86 square miles.
Each division (Training, Apparatus and Prevention) is headed by a Division Chief assisted by Captains and Lieutenants. The Safety Division is headed by a Captain (HSO) while our EMS Division is headed by a Lieutenant. The department was formed in 1858 and has evolved into a progressive state-of-the-art firefighting organization. The department has hosted Southern Wisconsin Northern Illinois Fire Rescue Association "Monroe Fire School" for over 75 years.
All firefighters are members of The Monroe Volunteer Firefighters Inc. which serves as the social and benevolence organization of the department. Information about our members is included in our personnel page.
We respond to calls from two stations with 5 Fire Engines, 1 Ladder Tower, 2 Tenders, 1 grass truck, 1 ATV, several utility vehicles and 3 command cars. Information about our apparatus is included in our apparatus page.
Our headquarters is located at Fire Station No. 1 at 601 West 17th Street while Station 2 at 1803 12th Street serves as a substation. Our normal first alarm response is 1 Engine Company from each station for residential calls or two Engine Companies, a Ladder Company and a Squad on commercial calls. We also operate a regional training center (The MERIT Center) in the Monroe Business and Industry Park on Monroe's north side. More information about our facilities can be found on our fire stations page.
The Monroe Fire Department is an ISO class 2 department. We are also charter members of MABAS Division 105 (Green County) and provide mutual aid and specialized equipment over a five-county area in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
We participate in many public education events each year. If you would like the firefighters, "Freddie" the firetruck, or "Sparky" to appear at your event, contact the Prevention Bureau by clicking on the link or calling the the Station at 608-329-2575.
