The City Clerk’s office has the duty of caring for and taking custody of the corporate seal and records, 
such as:
  • Contracts
  • Easements
  • Other miscellaneous agreements
  • Rent / lease agreements
  • Titles

The City Clerk’s office takes applications and issues licenses and permits for the following items:
  • Bartenders
  • Carnivals
  • Cigarettes
  • Circuses
  • Dancing
  • Liquor and beer
  • Pawnbrokers and secondhand article dealers
  • Streets
  • Taxi cab businesses
  • Terrace openings
  • Transient merchants
  • Weights and measures 

Additional Responsibilities
Oaths and affirmations are administered in the clerk’s office. The minutes of the Common Council and most other City committees are kept here. This office handles public records requests for the records maintained by the Clerk's office. The Clerk’s office is also responsible for administration of elections and voter registration for City of Monroe residents.
